Priscilla Wakefield’s Birthday Afternoon Tea – 31 January 2024
We celebrated the birthday of Priscilla Wakefield our namesake at Dickens Café with an afternoon tea. It was a great opportunity to learn more about Priscilla herself.
A well-connected Quaker, famous in her lifetime, Priscilla Wakefield, led a life pursuing social reform. She was actively engaged in social action and the alleviation of poverty in Tottenham focussing on charities concerned with women and children founding the Lying-in Charity for Women and the School of Industry for girls. She founded a Frugality Savings Bank in Tottenham and as a result she is widely acknowledged as the founder of the first Savings Bank in England. https://www.priscillawakefield.uk/
In honour of the day, to celebrate Priscilla Wakefield herself and the team at PWH Keith son of our resident John on Dorrit decorated his van and brought in some information to share about Priscilla. Thank you, Keith, for your support!
