Dining Around the World – Welsh Night – 24 July 2024

Our Dining Around the World event took us to Wales this month in honour of our resident Emily from Pickwick. Dickens café was decorated with symbols of Wales including the Welsh flag, daffodils and maps of Wales. Music by iconic Welsh artists and bands including Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Catatonia and The Manic Street Preachers filled the space. The authentic Welsh menu was enjoyed by all. To start prawn cocktail/ coctel corgimwch was served followed by Cawl a hearty stew made of meat and any vegetables available. There are many recipes often handed down through the family and vary from town to town throughout Wales. For dessert traditional Welsh pancakes, crempogau, were served. The crempog is a Welsh pancake made with flour, buttermilk, eggs, vinegar and salted butter. Traditionally made on bakestones or griddles, the crempog is one of the oldest recipes in Wales. Everyone said they had a great time, enjoying the ambience, food and company!
