Gardening Club – 9 October 2024
Our gardening club members on Havisham & Pickwick led by Mavis, wellbeing coordinator, have been busy planting winter plants and crops and preparing for spring. Our team planted winter pansies, primrose, and cyclamen to ensure our garden is vibrant throughout the winter months. Delicious produce doesn’t just grow in the summer; some of the best fall and winter vegetables reach maturity during the cold-weather months, with this in mind they also planted beetroots, kale, leeks, carrots, broad beans, lettuce, peas and wild rocket. To get dense and flowery spring pot displays, our gardeners layered bulbs in what the Dutch call a bulb lasagne, layering them up one on top of another. The largest and latest flowering bulbs go in deepest, moving to the smallest and earliest in the top layer. Our Spring bulb lasagne included daffodils, hyacinth, iris, crocus, morning glory, snowdrops and alliums. We look forward to seeing our garden thriving throughout the winter months. Thank you everyone for all your hard work and dedication to making this happen!
