National Playlist Day – Celebrating World Alzheimer’s Day – 20 September 2024
World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated on September 21st each year. It is a global day to raise awareness and reduce the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. National Playlist Day is a UK wide celebration of the power of meaningful music for people living with dementia.
We gathered in Nickleby lounge to celebrate both campaigns. We asked our residents what’s on their personalised playlist? For example, songs that take them back to their youth or conjure memories of a favourite holiday.
Everyone has a soundtrack of their life and National Playlist Day aims to reveal these special and unique playlists while raising awareness of a simple but effective intervention already benefitting thousands of people living with dementia throughout the UK.
We played songs that were meaningful to our residents giving us the opportunity to get to know one another better and find common ground. Some of our residents chose to sing along to their favourite songs bringing joy to all! It was great to see connections being made and strengthened in our PWH family.
